Spain has placed childhood obesity among its priorities for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2023. It is particularly interested in sharing a comprehensive vision of its approach and contributing to the advancement of intersectoral policies for the prevention of childhood obesity in the European region through the organization of this High-Level Meeting on Childhood Obesity – A comprehensive framework to reduce childhood obesity in the EU.

The Meeting will take place at the Congress Palace in Palma de Mallorca on October 16th and 17th, 2023, and will involve the participation of institutional figures and high-level experts from Spain, Europe, and internationally.

The objectives of the Meeting are as follows:

  • Move towards an innovative cross-sectoral comprehensive framework to reduce childhood obesity that can contribute to upcoming European policies to reduce childhood obesity.
  • Promote the dissemination and joint learning of effective experiences and best practices in reducing childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles for children and adolescents in the 21st century.
  • Advance in the creation of a large European alliance of multiple stakeholders for the reduction of childhood obesity, involving institutional, scientific, and social agents.

The Conference will last one and a half days (Monday afternoon and full day on Tuesday), during which, through different sessions, various aspects of addressing childhood obesity will be explored.
